The Arlington Collects 2008 exhibit is a project
where we look into the museum's own backyard to
explore the interests of local residents and re-engage
our residents and businesses to support the museum
while offering them a more diverse assortment of
programs and exhibits. This falls under the Museum's
new mission to broaden our vision as we provide access
to art for the cultural enrichment and economic
development of our community.
The show represents a group of Arlington collectors
whose interests vary from historic to contemporary
objects of art. The show is a blend of paintings,
prints, furniture and other art pieces.
There are Chinese ornaments and furniture that were
brought back to this country before the Boxer
Rebellion in China which occurred in 1900. Several
historic paintings from America and Europe complement
the collection of contemporary Chinese woodblock
prints and French Lithographs from the 18th century. Paintings from the American
West include contemporary and historic periods. This grouping is highlighted
by
several master painters that represent the Taos
Founders and Santa Fe Art Colony that painted in the
early to mid-1900's along with other significant
artists of this same time period. The works of these
artists are rare and normally found only in the best
museums in the world.
This will be an extremely important art event in the
city of Arlington.
As the vision is broadened, it is also vital that we
build awareness in the community of the cultural
choices that are available. Our strategy is a
departure from the norm as we will commence a media
program to tell the people we are open and to promote
our upcoming exhibits which will cover a much wider
and diverse audience.
The success of the Museum depends on the involvement of the community. We are extremely appreciative and honored by the those individuals whose generosity, cooperation and assistance have allowed us to have this show by lending their possessions to us.
Year-round
operating support for the AMA is provided in part by Bates Container,
Inc., the Texas Commission on the Arts,
the Star-Telegram, the
City of Arlington and by AMA
members.
