Keith Haring: Against All Odds

This summer, the Arlington Museum of Art is very excited to host Keith Haring: Against All Odds. Bridging the gap between the traditional art world and alternative street culture, Keith Haring rose to prominence in the early 1980s with his New York City graffiti drawings. Combining the colorful, bold lines of cartoons with the raw energy of Art Brut artists like Jean DuBuffet, Haring developed a distinct pop-graffiti aesthetic centered on fluid, bold outlines against a dense, rhythmic overspread of iconic pop art imagery. Haring explored social themes, which were emblematic of his time such as exploitation, consumerism, social discrimination, drug abuse, and the HIV/AIDS crisis. Alongside Jean-Michel Basquiat, Kenny Scharf, and Jenny Holzer, Haring is regarded as a leading figure in the New York East Village Art scene in the 1970s and ’80s.

The exhibition is set to run from June 21, 2019 to September 15, 2019. The Arlington Museum of Art invites you to join us for this exclusive exhibition and to consider becoming a member to help us secure more exciting opportunities like this in the future!
The Haring exhibit will include a private opening reception on Thursday, June 20th, 2019 for our members and will feature 50 original pieces.
